NEAR CLOUD BURST CAUSES MENOMONEE RIVER TO
DELUGE VALLEY.

For the first time in many years has there been such a downpour of rain within 60 hours in the month of June as that of this week. Over 4 inches fell within 65 minutes Wednesday at noon and the result was indeed spectacular. The floods rushed onward from the north and west and for a time it looked as though the dam could not hold, the banks were torn open and great torrents rushed on either side, culverts and bridges were swept away by the rushing currents. The rising waters flooded the concrete road and at places it was two and three feet deep. Farmers with herds of cattle in the valley made every effort to get them in safety and in some instances narrowly escaped drowning in the attempt. Several head of live stock were rescued the next day, being in the water up to their necks for more than 12 hours. Automobiles along the roads were washed against the barb wire fences or stalled in the deep water.
The oldest inhabitants cannot recall any such a downpour as that of Wednesday. Considerable damage is done to the growing crops.
